This May, Mamma Maggio 2026 quietly returns to Rustichella Pasta Bar.
Not as a single celebration confined to one Sunday, but as a small gesture carried across the entire month of May.
Notes left behind
Throughout Mamma Maggio, our tables have slowly filled with handwritten thoughts, memories and messages dedicated to mothers and mother figures.
Many notes are joyful. Others feel nostalgic, while a few simply say thank you. Meanwhile, certain messages arrive awkwardly, impulsively or without much thought at all.
And perhaps that is part of the point.
We are all someone’s child
None of us received instructions on how to be someone’s child. At some stage in life, most of us have said the wrong thing, acted carelessly or struggled to express what we truly meant.
Even imperfect words, however, often carry something honest behind them.
Across the month of May
Throughout Mamma Maggio at Rustichella Pasta Bar in Brisbane, guests have continued leaving messages between lunch and dinner services, beside plates of fresh handmade pasta and glasses of wine shared around the table.
Several notes made us smile immediately. A few made us pause quietly. At times, certain words proved difficult to swallow, yet they still reflected real and deeply human relationships, however messy or complicated family life can sometimes become.
One day is not enough
Because one day is not enough, Mamma Maggio continues Monday to Friday for both lunch and dinner throughout May at Rustichella Pasta Bar.
Flour, eggs, time and patience remain at the centre of what we do. Alongside them sit conversations, memories and thoughts left behind on paper.
Growing up in Emilia-Romagna, many memories begin around a table. Fresh pasta prepared by hand. Lunches stretching slowly through the afternoon. Family recipes repeated so many times they become part of daily life. Mamma Maggio is inspired by those simple moments more than anything else.
Our menu remains centred around the regional dishes of Emilia-Romagna, often recognised as part of Italy’s “Food Valley”, a region shaped by generations of pasta makers, farmers, winemakers and family traditions that continue to define one of the country’s richest food cultures.
Throughout May, Rustichella Pasta Bar is open Monday to Friday for both lunch and dinner. Closed Saturdays, Sundays and Queensland public holidays.
Mamma Maggio 2026 is simply an invitation to slow down for a moment, share a table and perhaps leave a thought for someone important.
